Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions.  JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system.

2009 Funding Appropriations: On February 17, 2009 the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (H.R. 1) was signed into law. The stimulus bill includes $4 billion to provide support to state, local and tribal law enforcement. Of this $4 billion, $2 billion has been allocated for the Byrne JAG formula grant program, $225 million has been allocated for Byrne competitive grants and $1 billion has been allocated for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) hiring grants. 60% allocation is awarded to the State and 40% is set aside for units of Local governments

Rural Law Enforcement to Combat Crime and Drugs

Rural Law Enforcement to Combat Crime and Drugs is in addition to the FY 2009 Recovery Act - JAG Program. The solicitation is available for download at: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/BJA/recovery/RecoveryRuralLE.pdf

Eligibility: Agencies not listed on the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) or agencies in counties with a population of under 50,000 (if they received less that $40,000 through the JAG program). The MSA is located at http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/bulletins/fy2009/09-01.pdf.

OJJDP FY 2008 Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Earmarks

The Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office was created through the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994.  The COPS office goal is to advance community policing as a strategy to improve public safety.  The COPS Earmarks solicitation provides grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance to organizations identified in the Joint Explanatory Statement to Accompany Consolidated Appropriations Act (2008).

Eligibility: OJJDP will only accept applications for the OJJDP FY 2008 COPS Earmarks solicitation from agencies and organizations that have received an invitation to apply under this solicitation.

The Transportation Security Association (TSA) Grant Programs site provides information on security grants for public transportation, security, and homeland security. A list of grants available and tools for applying as well as a list of grants awarded are available from this site.

The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) site is an online catalog with access to federal programs available to state and local governments (includig the District of Columbia); federally-recognized Indian tribal governments; Territories (and possessions) of the US; domestic public, quasi-public, and private profit adn nonprofit organizations and institutions; specialized groups; and individuals.
